Car Insurance Isuzu (Car Insurance). Should i stay tbi or go to a carb?

Should i stay tbi or go to a carb? I have a 92 GMC 1/2 TON 2 wheel. The engine has been bored .030 with flat top pistons, a 222 duration with 447 lift cam. Stock heads that have been refine to stock. It runs real rich and is hesitant. I was thinking about changing to a carb. With a Duration 282/292, Lift .465/.488 cam, and a eldabrook intake and a holley 600 or 650 carb. I'm not looking for a race truck just something that runs strong and sounds good. Any ideas. Please help.

computer controlled engines are designed to work inside certain parameters. sounds like you are outside of the map sensors ability to provide the computer an accurate manifold vacuum signal or a coolant temp sensor problem.either will cause a rich condition and poor driveability. if you do decide to change to a carb set up,i think that i would run an edelbrock carb, instead of the holley.it's hard to beat a well tuned holley at the race track, but the edelbrocks work better for me on daily drivers.you will have to use a fuel pressure regulator with a return port to get the fuel pressure down if you intend to keep the stock electric pump. can't remember if the '92 uses a fuel pump block off plate at the block,if so, you can convert to a mechanical pump. the 282/292 cam should have a nice rumpity idle. to get the most out of your combination change the distributor to a mallory type so that you can tune your advance curve. look in summit racing catalog there is a direct replacement bolt on tbi by holley that's miles ahead of a carb. and that tbi is a excellent set up, you can have the stock one rebuilt with oversize throttle body that will kick butt too (holley is the way to go though) it promises more power, and one thing I know about holley is it is one butt kicking addition to any ride, I can tell you some stories way back 30 years ago when holly came out with this new carb, A street dominator. it had smaller primaries, and these huge secondaries, I ran down to the store and slapped this 300 dollar carb on (lot of money for a carb in 79 , waited untill midnight, took this hot rod chevy pick up I had out for a quick test flight. Long story short, I had a cop hopping up and down in my driveway screaming "THAT TRUCK IS FAST, YOU ARE UNDER ARREST" and so it went. back then, they could not impound the vehicle if it was on private property and they could not get the owners permission so the truck stayed home, I got a free six month vacation. My only concern is failing emission inspection beause in states with emissions you need all original emission parts. you may not have a chose, unless you have some one that can burn you a chip to solve your problems you changed intake vacuum, this up sets MAP sensor,0X2 sensor is as far lean as it can go ,timing has been changed, and if its solid lift the knock sensor is most likely retard the timing as far as it can,all these changes are electronic program changes,it would be far cheaper to change, but don't forget to add a good dial in type fuel pressure regulator,to change from 14-PSI to about 6-PSI for carb which uses less pressure than TBI It's AMAZING Is it you want? http://giftchoice.info/445658/piston

Isuzu . How to Adjust a Two-Barrel Holley Carburetor

The Holley two-barrel carburetor is designed with two adjustment screws located near the base of the carburetor. The curb idle speed screw allows for adjusting the RPMs to the correct level when the vehicle is idling in gear, while the idle mixture screw sets the correct RPM level when the vehicle is idling in park. Adjusting the Holley two-barrel carburetor can be done in just a few minutes. You can adjust the carburetor yourself, thus saving time and money.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Screwdriver
Vacuum gauge

Step by Step :
1
Locate the curb idle speed screw and the idle mixture screw; both can be found at the base of the two-barrel Holley carburetor. Turn the screws carefully with a screwdriver in a counter-clockwise direction, until the screws bottom out and you feel resistance.
2
Turn both screws clockwise 1 1/4 turns to use as a starting point to adjust the carburetor. Start the motor, letting it warm up for about five minutes.
3
Remove the rubber vacuum hose from the vacuum port on the side of the carburetor. Attach a vacuum gauge to the vacuum port.
4
Adjust the screws, moving them 1/8 of a turn at a time in a clockwise direction, alternating back and forth. Continue adjusting until both screws have readings of 600 RPMs on the vacuum gauge.
5
Remove the vacuum gauge from the vacuum port on the carburetor, by hand. Attach the vacuum hose to the vacuum port.
6
Shut the engine off and allow it to cool down.
Tips & Warnings
Always be cautious not to get burned by hot engine parts when adjusting the Holley two-barrel carburetor.

Isuzu . How to Adjust a Holley Carb

Adjusting a Holley carburetor is a job that can be done in just a few minutes. Occasionally, the adjustment screws on a Holley carburetor will loosen from engine vibration while it is running, causing the motor to run poorly and reducing your fuel mileage. A poor running engine can also cause engine parts to fail quicker. You can adjust the Holley carburetor yourself, saving you the time and money of having a mechanic or someone else do the work for you.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Screwdriver
Vacuum gauge

Step by Step :
1
Locate the two idle mixture screws on both sides of the Holley carburetor metering block between the body of the carburetor and the float bowl on the side.
2
Turn the adjustment screws gently with a screwdriver while the engine is off, turning the screws counter-clockwise until they bottom out. Turn the screws until you feel just a slight resistance to keep from over-tightening them.
3
Rotate both screws clockwise 1-1/4 turns with a screwdriver to begin the idle adjustment. Turn the motor on and let it warm up for about five minutes.
4
Pull the vacuum hose off the vacuum port at the bottom of the carburetor and attach a vacuum gauge to the vacuum port.
5
Turn the idle adjustment screws on the Holley carburetor 1/4-turn clockwise at a time until the RPMs on the vacuum gauge reach 600 for both adjustment screws.
6
Remove the vacuum gauge from the vacuum port and reattach the hose to the port. Shut the engine off.
Tips & Warnings
Carefully turn the screws, when setting the adjustment screws, to prevent snapping them off from over-tightening.

Many auto parts stores and some service stations accept old oil for recycling. If you don't have one close by, look in your phone book for the nearest oil recycling center or toxic waste disposal center. You can also bring the old oil filter along. Be sure not to contaminate the oil by mixing it with another substance or putting it into a dirty container, or recycling centers may not accept it. #ust as the inside of your engine needs lubrication (via oil, as explained in J Chapter 15), other parts of your vehicle need lubrication as well. A lube ^jo b involves applying lubricants (various kinds of grease and oil) to some of the moving parts under your vehicle and to some of the rubber parts to keep them supple. Your transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and brake fluid are lubricants, too. (See the monthly under-the-hood check in Chapter 3 about checking these fluids if you haven't already done so.) The parts of your vehicle that need periodic lubrication can include the steering linkage, transmission shift linkage, clutch linkage, parking brake cables, differential, and driveshaft universal joint fittings. Because some of these are hard to find and hard to reach, most require a special kind of lubricant. Because you can get into trouble if you don't deal with them properly, I suggest that, once or twice a year, you take your vehicle to the dealership or to a good independent repair facility. Have them lubricate everything that needs it — including the distributor, if your vehicle has one. The rest of the time, just lubricate the things that I point out in this chapter, and you'll be way ahead of the game. What do you lubricate when you do a lube job? What tools do you need? And how to you do it? This chapter answers all these questions. !? A ft Part III: Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System

What a Lube Job Grease fittings are those places on your vehicle that hold lubricants to protect moving parts from one another. They must be kept packed with grease to keep the components they protect moving freely without friction. Naturally, these are usually the parts that move the most, except for those inside your engine (which are lubricated with oil). Think about your vehicle and take a look at Figure 16-1. Where does most of the movement take place when you drive (not counting any kids in the backseat)? Well, the front wheels turn on wheel bearings, and they can change direction when you steer because of the steering linkage between the steering wheel and the front wheels. Your vehicle moves up and down on its suspension system and shock absorbers, which keep it level, even when the wheels are bobbing up and down on rough stretches of road.
